Interesting Springbok Hunting Information:

  • Springboks hold the Guinness World Record for the largest herd of mammals!  In the 1800’s, there were herds as large as 10 million that stretched over 90 miles long!
  • They often have episodes of jumping called “pronking.”  Pronk is a Dutch word that means to “show off.”
  • Springboks come in three colors… traditional, black, and white.
  • When a male is interested in mating, he will urinate in the presence of a female; if she accepts, she, too, will urinate.  I do not recommend us humans trying this!

So Many To Choose From When going to Ox Ranch for my Springbok hunt, I did not realize how hard it would be to choose! We hunted the afternoon I arrived and saw many Springbok. The following day, my guide coached me on what to look for in a mature male since there were so many in one herd. We got in a group, and I confirmed with my guide which one to shoot and was able to harvest an awesome Springbok!
