Wildebeest Hunting

Wildebeest Hunting Season: Wildebeest are an excellent species to hunt year round in Texas!

Origin: Africa
Horn Size: 12-33 inches
Weight: 260-600 pounds
Estimated World Population: 1,000,000
Ox Ranch Population: 40

The Wildebeest, also known as gnu, consists of two species: the Black Wildebeest that is native to North Africa and the much larger Blue Wildebeest that is located in South Africa. Throughout documentaries, these are the animals you tend to see getting eaten by crocodiles or drowning while they cross rivers. What is truly unique about these animals is the fact that they have what is known as “swarm intelligence,” a term used to describe how the herd will explore and overcome problems as one. They have even been known to fight and injure lions, making them a worthy opponent for any huntsman!

At Ox Ranch, you may choose your hunting method: Spot and Stalk, Rifle Hunting, Bow Hunting, Pistol Hunting, Safari Style, or From a Blind! Our Wildebeest hunting is fair chase on over 18,000 acres of Texas Hill Country!

Fun Times I thoroughly enjoyed my WIldebeest hunt on the Ox Ranch! These animals are very fast and kept us on our toes. It was not an easy hunt with having to be ready at any given time, but we got it done and harvested a beautiful Wildebeest by the end of the trip!
